A farmer
himself with over four decades of
hands-on experience in farming, Omprakash Mor is known for pioneering
the organic movement in India. He is easily today's global farmer-citizen
with his exposure to modern farming techniques in Europe, America
and Israel. |
|
He
graduated in the seventies with a motivation to till family land and
his desire for technical knowledge earned him a scholarship in 1980
at the premier 'Rupin Institute', Israel. After a short stint in Kibbutz
he returned to India and soon became an acknowledged farmer leader
with his successful experiments in dryland farming practices.
In 1990 he took completely to Organic Farming, realizing the needs
of the future. In course of work, he interacted with some leading
philosophers of organic movement - including the living legend, Fukoka
from Japan in 1993.
He founded the farmers body 'Vidarbha Organic Farmers Association
(VOFA)' and set up EcoFarms (India) Ltd. in 1995.
In respect to his commitment to the cause he has been championing,
he had been awarded many times over.

What's more, Omprakash Mor was the first to obtain the organic
certification seal by an international agency for the cotton production
programme in India. His vast farming experiences in agro climatically
challenged areas have made him a farmer's true guide.
Being farmer first, he always stood for the betterment of the socio
economic development of farmers. This encouraged him to go for fair-trade
audit and certification programmes for the organic project. |
